Leon Lindauer 

Leon Lindauer was born December 22, 1924 in Savannah, Georgia to Leon and Yetta Lindauer. At 13 years of age, Lindauer made his Bar Mitzvah and joined the Jewish Educational Alliance. That same year, he joined Troop 2 of the Boy Scouts, a local group sponsored by the Jewish Educational Alliance. He was an active Scout until the age of 17.
On July 1, 1943 at the age of 18, Lindauer enlisted in the Army, joining Company F, 351st Infantry Regiment, 88th Infantry Division. As part of the 88th Infantry Division, Lindauer was sent overseas in 1944 to Italy. After arriving in Naples on February 6, 1944 and training for a couple of months, the 88th Infantry Division drove north. They liberated towns as they advanced, reaching Anzio on May 29. The Division then pushed into Rome on June 4, 1944, being the first unit of the Fifth Army to enter the city.
After some needed rest following the capture of Rome, the 88th Infantry Division began its assault on the Gothic Line on September 21, 1944, advancing rapidly and taking Mount Battaglia on September 28.
Leon Lindauer was killed by a sniper on September 28, 1944 while on patrol in the Po Valley.
