Mary Rumph

Mary Berry Rumph grew up in Tampa, Florida. In 1943, she graduated from Florida State College for Women. During World War II, Rumph was stationed at the Naval Air Station in Lake City, Florida, where she worked as an assistant communications officer.

This photograph features Mary Rumph with a target that she would have shot to gain her Expert Pistol Status. The innermost circle and ring outside of it were five points each, with each circle outwards having lesser point value. Mary Rumph shot at least 10/12 into the innermost circle and ring.

This document is an announcement of Mary Rumph’s Expert Pistol achievement. She shot a 58/60 on the marksman exam, making her one of the best female shooters in the WAVES.
